The Carnivorous Plant FAQ Field Trip Report -

New South Wales, Australia, in 2007

Return to the Trip Overview

Sundews in the litter:
The mental image of Robert on the dance floor in red plastic pants, shaking his booty to Air Supply was unsettling*, so I concentrated on the plants instead.

This is a closer view of the Drosera auriculata. This plant has clearly been eating well, but you will also notice that some white mealy bug insects are returning the favor by sucking on the plant's juices.

Those of you that have been raised on nature documentaries may be interested to know that this area was home to bowerbirds, in particular ones that had a fondness for blue items. We did not see any, nor did we look for a nest, but it was excellent nonetheless knowing that they were in the area.

*Sorry, Robert.
