The Carnivorous Plant FAQ Field Trip Report -

Florida Panhandle in 2008

Return to the Trip Overview

Ocean Pond:
I left the fire and continued to Ocean Pond, visible behind this bald cypress (Taxodium distichum). I was hoping to find the aquatic Utricularia floridana in its clear waters, but alas I struck out. Still no carnivorous plants!

The plan was for all four of us to drive a few hours west of Tallahassee and look for red D. filiformis in Washington County. I had contacted many botanists and hobbyists during the preceding few months and had developed leads on five different populations, all within 15 km of each other, in seeps and wet borders of karst ponds.
