The Carnivorous Plant FAQ Field Trip Report -

Florida Panhandle in 2008

Return to the Trip Overview

A big lake bed:
We arrived and fanned out. I investigated the GPS point I had been given by another researcher, but verified that it was merely the approximate center for the dried lake bed. Meanwhile, the others followed their instincts and looked for suitable habitat, GPS coordinates be damned. It was a good strategy--by the time I rejoined them, they had already found the population of red Drosera filiformis!

Growing along with the Drosera filiformis was Drosera capillaris, looking quite normal and not at all like "long-leafed" plants of Florida that confound simply classification.
