The Carnivorous Plant FAQ Field Trip Report -

Western Florida, 2010

Return to the Trip Overview

Plumes
I took some close images of the plumes---I wanted to capture how the diaphanous shoots were spangled with red and black bladders, but were beautifully contrasting with the many similarly-sized bubbles of oxygen, evolved from photosynthesis.

Isn't it pretty?

This image shows a younger, purplish shoot, and this second image looks upwards into another young branch.

Snorkeling with Utricularia floridana was surely one of the high points of our Florida trip. My photographs barely hint at the overwhelming nature of the experience. It was magical. I want to go back.

After I played in the muck, Beth had a spin with the gear, took equally nice images, and enjoyed it as much as I did. I'm sure the many fish we said hello to were perplexed.
