The Carnivorous Plant FAQ Field Trip Report -

Drosera filiformis in Florida, 2010

Return to the Trip Overview

A bladderwort garden
Growing just a few feet away, in a quiet bit of shallow water, the U. floridana was joined by U. cornuta and delightful pink-purple U. resupinata flowers.

To take this photograph I had to kneel down on the bank of the river, by a disturbed fire ant nest. Waiting for a windless moment meant brushing the ants off of me as they swarmed up my legs. I was not 100% successful at keeping them off me, and Beth chided me for my stupid fire-ant dance. I suffered about a dozen or so nasty stings---two weeks later, the marks have yet to heal.
