The Carnivorous Plant FAQ Field Trip Report -

Apalachicola National Forest in 2010

Return to the Trip Overview

Nice pitcher plants
Meet me face to face, and I'll tell you about some of the hardships of that hike. It was tough, I will not deny it! But we were well-rewarded at the end point of our hike, where our path disintegrated through a stream-crossing.

As we searched for the trail, we found a population of Sarracenia psittacina. I don't know if I would have been so enthusiastic about lying down in the sedges to photograph these plants had I known they were filled with chiggers.

Probably I would, because now---weeks after the event, the chigger sores are gone, but I still have the photographs and memories.
