Red buds:
Interestingly, the hibernacula were usually widely spaced. It was rare to find hibernacula within 10 cm of each
other--my photographs are somewhat atypical in that respect. In contrast, sites with
D. anglica or D. rotundifolia often occur with the plants practically
piling on top of each other.
