Appalachian Excursion in 2007!

Return to the Trip Overview

Sarracenia jonesii:
The day was getting on, and since Jim had a long drive in front of him he headed back to his car. I stayed on and looked around a little more. Many of the Sarracenia jonesii pitchers were damaged by some kind of insect, so I dissected one that had been snapped off a plant to look for anything inside. The pitcher was plugged with frass and twigs, and at the bottom of the plug (to the left in this photograph) I found a papery cocoon. (Do you see it?)
