The Carnivorous Plant FAQ Field Trip Report -

Southern Portugal in 2011

Return to the Trip Overview

Beautiful colors!
Pinguicula lusitanica is certainly not valued for its flowers. They are small and generally considered to be drab. However, as is usually the case with tiny drab flowers, when you look close enough you see they are indeed beautiful--just on a submicroscopic scale.

Look at the details--the striped corolla tube, the yellow splash on the tube, and the brown spur. Suppose this plant was as large as P. moranensis--people would go ape over these details.
