The Carnivorous Plant FAQ Field Trip Report -

Sarracenia alata with a lagniappe, 2005

Return to the Trip Overview

Red plants:
After settling down at this new site, I decided that my first goal was to photograph some of local variations of S. alata, such as this red specimen. Very nice, don't you think? Later in the year some of these plants will get so much additional pigmentation they will look jet black from bottom to top.

As I worked with this plant, Beth drew my attention to a hawk wheeling low overhead--a broad winged hawk. This was a new bird for us both, and an excellent view of one at that!
