The Carnivorous Plant FAQ Field Trip Report -

Appalachian Excursion in 2005!

Return to the Trip Overview

Intact pitcher:
One part of the pitcher plant community grew along a strip of dry, traversible rock, so I was able to get right up to the plants without fear of damaging them (or myself). The pitcher above is reasonably intact, despite being from the previous season.

A diagnostic feature of Sarracenia jonesii is that the pitcher diameter is greater along the top 1/3 of the tube. As you can see here, the feature can be very subtle. Look at the previous images (and the ones to follow) with this in mind.
