Wow!
Even though the number of plants was not very
large, there were some lovely specimens present. This colorful
clone defies classification into
the simple seven varieties that Don Schnell reviewed in his
1998 CPN article. I suppose would
consider this an intermediate between
Sarracenia flava var. rugelii (the throat splotch) and
Sarracenia flava var. ornata (the intense veining). Whatever
you call it, it is astonishing.
Time to go to my next site! Back in my faithful, if soiled rental
car, I drank a quart of water. Just then, I was distracted in my
rehydration by having to remove a tick precisely as it tried to
crawl into my left nostril.
Ychhhhhhhh!!!!! After removing the tick I executed
a small inside-the-car dance of horror and disgust. I started the car
and headed north, and as I did so,
I practiced sneezing in various novel ways, hoping to drive out the
ticks I was hallucinating might be crawling around my sinus
cavities.
By the way, the new mud from this site had inexplicably
found its way to the rear view mirror and air-conditioning controls.
