Cattle grazing and misplaced priorities (v2.0)
-- Updates --
I spoke to the landowners just a few days ago, and they are still
concerned about the cattle on their property. Grazing season is
approaching.
Staff from the US Forest Service contacted me and told me that they are
certainly taking steps to try to keep the rancher in compliance with the
grazing permit. They were unwilling to tell me what the steps were, though,
because they said they were still in some draft stage and it would be
inappropriate to reveal the draft document at this time.
The US Forest Service has criticized me in a number of e-mails, saying my
information is inaccurate. I have carefully reviewed this document,
made a few appropriate changes (some in the interest of making peace and
rebuilding bridges),
and to my knowledge the site is factual,
if perhaps opinionated.
Any comments from the Forest Service or other interested people can be
e-mailed directly to me (barrysarracenia.com).
As for the many people who have e-mailed the Forest Service, they were
promised by the Forest Service
that "our botany staff is preparing a detailed reply that each commenter
(and Mr. Meyers-Rice) will receive as a formal response, hopefully next
week." Indeed this formal response has been drafted and e-mailed to at
least some of the folks who e-mailed the Forest Service. It is not particularly
detailed (it is only one page), but you can read it below.
