The Carnivorous Plant FAQ Field Trip Report -

Western Australia in 2007

Return to the Trip Overview

The next morning...
...was an exciting one for me. We had made arrangements with Allen Lowrie to meet at our hotel for a day in the field. Allen Lowrie, of course, has been researching plants in Australia for years and wrote the three finest books we have on Australian carnivorous plants. Furthermore, Lowrie has been responsible for the description of a large number of new Byblis, Drosera, Utricularia, and Stylidium species. As my interest in carnivorous plants transformed from a graduate school hobby to a life-changing passion, Lowrie's books were very influential to me. The opportunity to go into the field with him was thrilling.

This Stylidium ecorne flower greeted us at our first site, about 30 km east of Perth on a moss covered patch of wet rock at an intersection on the highway.
