The next morning...
...was an exciting one for me. We had made arrangements with Allen Lowrie to meet at our hotel for a day in the
field. Allen Lowrie, of course, has been researching plants in Australia for years and wrote the three finest books we have on
Australian carnivorous plants. Furthermore, Lowrie has been responsible for the description of a large number of new
Byblis,
Drosera, Utricularia, and Stylidium
species. As my interest in carnivorous plants transformed from a graduate school hobby to a life-changing passion, Lowrie's books
were very influential to me. The opportunity to go into the field with him was thrilling.
This Stylidium ecorne flower greeted us at our first site, about 30 km east of Perth on a moss
covered patch of wet rock at an intersection on the highway.
