The Carnivorous Plant FAQ Field Trip Report -

Massachusetts and Vermont in 2006

Return to the Trip Overview

Setting sun:
As the hours raced by, sunlight sloped in at an ever-lowering angle. This bog had become my all-time favorite Sarracenia purpurea site, and I didn't want to leave, but as many parts of the Sphagnum mat were entering the lengthening shadows of the bordering trees, I could no longer deny the impending reality of the day's end.

I calculated the minimal time I needed to hike all the way back to the car by sunset, added a little safety buffer, and saw I had only thirty minutes left. I packed my gear, and savored my last few moments at this beautiful bog.

It was in wonderful condition, and I hoped it would stay that way.
