The Carnivorous Plant FAQ Field Trip Report -

Appalachian Excursion in 2005!

Return to the Trip Overview

Sarracenia jonesii
Yay! Pitcher plants! What a pleasure to see these plants! It was still quite early in the season for these plants, so the pitchers were not in good form. The only reason there are mature pitchers here at all was that these have lasted from the previous season. There were a lot of plants here, but most looked really ratty (in a seasonally appropriate way). Here is another view showing some excellent flower production.

Many seedlings were present--I bet if someone knocked out that berm and drained the lake, this whole drainage would return to its former glory as a fabulous Sarracenia site. Or so I fantasize. (I suspect that the reality is more complex.)
