Q: About species lists
A: So, my species lists for the genus Utricularia are built around the
critical work by Peter Taylor (1989). In the years since that was published, I have read the descriptions of new species and
evaluated them on a case by case basis. If I thought the species had merit, I included them in my species lists.
My analyses are
also tempered by the opinions of several botanists who work with this group of plants, or with carnivorous plants in
general. I note in particular that the opinions of Jan Schlauer, Andreas Fleischmann, and Allen Lowrie, carry weight for me.
The recent publication by Ellison & Adamec (2018) included an appendix with a Utricularia
species list. There are a number of peculiarities in this list that make me suspect that it was perhaps rushed to publication.
As such, I am hesitant to adopt it. However, since this is such an important work, I will note--in each of the sections that follow--any
inconsistencies that the Ellison & Adamec species lists have with mine.
