Q: About Utricularia subgenus Utricularia section Avesicaria
A: With this section, we enter an area I have no personal experience.
The two plants in this section have very interesting, clawlike rhizoids or gripping modifications to their stolons
to help the plants hang onto rocks
in swiftly flowing water. Taylor once grouped additional species in this section, but in his monograph he removed them into
other sections.
Utricularia oliveriana
A species with obovate leaves that at first glance might
seem conventional, until you notice
the gripping stolons and clawlike rhizoids.
Utricularia neottioides
I would love to see this species. The plant is beset with capillary, weakly divided
leaves that are fringed with surprisingly long setulae. Crazy!
