Post-fire:
The previous plants grew in moist Sphagnum and had been spared the effects of a recent wildfire.
Meanwhile, the plants above were not so protected, and had been slightly toasted. Still, they were already responding with
vigorous regrowth.
Jim had been studying these plants to better understand their population dynamics--research that could be used to
help in restoration efforts. Unfortunately, some idiot poachers had dug plants from the site, damaging his research
results. Yet another example of an impact by poachers.
